The Tanglewood String Quartet
The Tanglewood String Quartet was created in 1942 by Dr. Serge Koussevitsky, conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and friend of Dmitri Shostakovich, from selected members of the BSO, for the American première
of the Shostakovich Piano Quintet, Opus 57.
The Tanglewood Quartet featured in over 50 concerts between 1942 and 1980.
